• ASLS INFORMATION OPEN HOUSE: Saturday, January 28th is our annual information day here at Abiding Savior. This is a wonderful opportunity to see your child’s classroom for next year. You can ask questions, get to know the teacher, and see samples of student work. This event is open to current families and new families interested in our school.

• SINGING IN CHURCH: We will be singing at the 9:30 am church service on Sunday, February 12. Mark this date on your calendar. A note will be sent home as we get closer to the date.

• 100th Day and Valentine’s Party: These two celebrations happen to be on the same day of school this year. Please mark your calendars as we will need parents to volunteer to help during the day.

• We have begun to write independently in class. Your child is learning to sound out words using their knowledge of letter sounds. Encourage your child to write at home in order to continue developing a love of writing and good skills. If they do not spell the words correctly, that is okay. The important part is that they are learning the parts of words, spacing, and punctuation. Praise your child for being a good writer.

• I will continue to test each child’s awareness of identifying sight words formerly introduced. After your child is able to read them, I will send home a new word list. • BOOK FAIR: Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair in our library November 28-December 2. We will go to the book fair during our normal library time on Wednesday at 11:20. You can send your child with money or they can make a wish list and take you back later.

• SERVICE PROJECT: We will be supporting Spark of Love, an organization that collects new toys for needy children. This toy drive will start on Wednesday, November 30 and end on Wednesday, December 14. A flyer will be sent home explaining this wonderful cause in more detail.

• CHRISTMAS STORE: We will be attending the Christmas store on Tuesday, December 6th. This is a wonderful opportunity to allow your child to buy gifts for their family, friends, and buddy at school. Please send your child with their envelope filled out and money inside. I will need parent volunteers to assist students with their purchases in the store. There is a sign up sheet for volunteering on my door. Thanks!

Your child needs to wear their green ASLS polo shirt and a comfortable pair of pants (jeans are okay). Make sure that your child also wear comfortable walking shoes, we will be in dirt fields and a petting zoo. A reminder letter will come home on Wednesday will all of the details.

• HALLOWEEN PARTY: We will be having our Halloween Party on Monday, October 31. We will start the party by having a parade around the school in our costumes at 10:00am. Our party will begin right after our parade. Please send your child’s costume to school in their backpack and we will help them change. Avoid sending weapons or anything else that is not appropriate for school. Thank You!
